Floating Riverine Litter Flux to the White Sea: Seasonal Changes in Abundance and Composition

نویسندگان

چکیده

Arctic rivers bring litter from their basins to the sea, but accurate data for do not exist yet. This study presents first assessment of floating macro input (>2.5 cm) Northern Dvina and Onega White Sea. The observations were performed based on European Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) methodology using mobile application Joint Research Centre (Ispra, Italy). results May 2021 November show that 77% objects natural origin (mainly leaves, wood bird feathers). Of particles anthropogenic origin, 59.6% represented by various types plastics, 27.7% processed wood, 8.5% paper/cardboard, 2.7% metal, 1.1% rubber <1% textiles. average monthly varies 250 1700 items/hour, 520 2350 items/hour. level pollution studied was found be higher than in some Europeans lower China. mass discharge macroplastics River compared with estimates meso- microplastics; allowed us units is much micro- mesoplastics.

Toward a Harmonized Approach for Monitoring of Riverine Floating Macro Litter Inputs to the Marine Environment

A high percentage of the litter entering the marine environment is assumed to come from land-based sources, but freshwater litter inputs have not been quantified. The lack of data and knowledge on fluxes of riverine litter to the sea, i.e., quantities and sources, hinders implementation of appropriate environmental regulations and mitigation measures. Estimations of riverine litter inputs requi...

Seasonal Changes in the Content and Composition of Lipids in Acropora downingi

The lipid content and composition of the reef-building coral Acropora downingi, the largest coral reef of Hengam Island, were examined throughout a year. The results showed that the lipid content of A. downingi significantly differs in different seasons (t-test, P< 0.05). Depending on the season and spawning times, the lipid content of A. downingi ranged from 16.5 to 37.7 % (dry weight). The to...

Latest Diversity Trend and Seasonal Abundance of Population of Zooplankton (Holoplankton) Communities in the South Caspian Sea, Iran

Seasonal variations of zooplankton communities were studied in the southern Caspian Sea for 4 successive seasons and 8 transects with 5 stations from 5 to 100 m depths which sampled during 2009. The zooplankton population constituted of 73.33% copepods, 24.21% rotifers, 2.23% cladocerans and 0.23% protozoans. Copepods were dominant at all stations with a density between 1456±531 ind. m-3 (Trans...
